New movies opening this weekend, but will anyone be interested in watching them now that Summer is in full swing? On the roster are the highly anticipated (but not necessarily well-reviewed) Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy. Rock of Ages is based off the wildly popular musical, but will it hold up the way other Broadway to Box Office movies did (Mamma Mia comes to mind)? And will That’s My Boy be Adam Sandler’s undoing? After the flop Jack and Jill, will anyone give it a chance?
Keep reading to see if these flicks are worth a trip to the Cineplex… after the jump!
“Rock of Ages” tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more. It looks cute, and if you love hair bands, then this is the movie for you.
That’s My Boy is a ‘ripped from the headlines’ sort of movie, loosely based on that Seattle teacher who bedded her underage student and went to prision for a very long time. The synopsis: While still in his teens, Donny (Adam Sandler) fathered a son, Todd (Andy Samberg), and raised him as a single parent up until Todd’s 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd’s world comes crashing down.
I’m torn. Both look okay to me. Which would you be interested in?
