Lil Wayne faces death from likely codeine overdose

Lil Wayne parties at 1OAK nightclub in Las Vegas. The rapper is currently near death from a possible codeine overdose.

Rapper Lil Wayne is in an induced coma and on life support at Cedars-Sinai Hospital reports, TMZ. Despite contrary reports from friends of the rapper, the website says their sources say Lil Wayne was read his last rites about at 5:15 p.m. PST.

Lil Wayne’s mother is currently on her way to see Lil Wayne before the decision is made to remove him from life support.  TMZ says doctors at Cedars-Sinai pumped Lil Wayne’s stomach 3 times after discovering high amounts of codeine in his system. The rapper is known to drink “Sizzurp” or “Purple Drank” which is cough syrup laced with codeine mixed with Sprite or Mountain Dew.

Lil Wayne was admitted to Los Angeles-area hospital on Tuesday after collapsing and suffering a seizure on the set of  Nicki Minaj’s music video for her song, “High School.”  Lil Wayne first battled seizures in 2008 and struggled with his health in October of last year.

At the time this went to press, Lil Wayne’s condition remained critical and unstable.
