Crop circles have been around for decades and were made even more famous by the movie Signs. They pop up every now and then in locales both far and near. Are the larger than life designs the work of nighttime pranksters, aliens or something else? Maybe all three.

The sun is on fire! The sun is on fire! Well, kinda. A giant solar flare erupted from the sun early Tuesday morning that is utterly stunning to watch. It’s the biggest of its kind in four years and is just as cool to watch as a gorgeous sunset.

Last month, the Discovery shuttle launched into space for the last time and yesterday, the historic space shuttle safely returned to earth after its 13 day mission came to an end.

Shortly before noon on this day 25 years ago, the Challenger space shuttle was getting ready to lift off and make history. A Concord, New Hampshire school teacher, Christa McAuliffe, was on board and would have been the first teacher in NASA history to go to space. With seven astronauts ready to launch into space, the Challenger took off and 73 seconds later, disaster struck. The craft burst into flames to the horror of the entire nation killing all seven crew members.

What comes to mind when you think of Neanderthals? Aside from using the word as an insult, images of wildly uncivilized meat eating brutes pop into my head. But a recent study shows that 44,000 to 36,000-year-old Neanderthals from Iraq and Belgium were more civilized than we once thought. From studying their teeth, we’ve learned that Neanderthals ate barley, dates, legumes and even water lilies.
